I personally found it hard to slow down, I couldn't just 'do it' as I didn't know how! So in an attempt to take smaller steps and not let my brain run ahead of me as per usual I started practicing the art of gratitude. This meant intentionally being thankful for all the things that made up my day; the people I interacted with, the food I ate, the car I drive, the walk in the park, the people that love me, the sunset through the clouds, the bed that I sleep in. As I put my energy into becoming aware of more and more things I could be grateful for, there seemed less room to worry and after maybe a week I automatically found myself living life step-by-step because I wasn't worrying about what was ahead. It was, and is, so liberating trying to free yourself from the burden of concern with things that haven't even happened yet! But old habits die hard and each day is a new challenge!
Our life lessons experiment is about a journey - to help us discover ourselves in ways that might not have otherwise arisen. Some lessons will speak louder than others, and there is no right or wrong answer to the questions that are raised - only our own discoveries. Everyday life presents us with the opportunity to gently observe our own behaviour and learn something about ourselves. It is as much about affirmation - realising you are awesome at something - as it is discovering something you might like to change!
As we move on to our next lesson, I hope that we can all retain a little of last month's micro-management approach to life, not least so that it slows us down a little before we realise another miracle-filled day has gone before us.
NEXT MONTH:
It's OK to get angry with God, he can take it!
