What is the Book of Life Club?...

Inspired by a personal desire to bring about change in the world we live in & the Life Lessons of Regina Brett - the Book of Life Club was born. We are a small group of women who are trying to change our environment by changing our own behaviour; trying to act with more grace, gratitude, kindness, joy and love by supporting each other through monthly gatherings and (hopefully) inspirational blog posts! I once read that all it takes for evil to win is for one person not to act, so we are acting....and seeing where it might lead us!

"take a deep breath..it calms the mind"

Welcome to 2013 everyone and the return of The book of Life club!

As I take time to find my new place in the world aside my new son, I am opting to contribute to bookclub from my computer for the next few months as the group continue to meet, eat cake and talk about life!

This month we begin the new year (albeit one month in!!) with pausing to breathe - such an amazing, essential and taken-for-granted life function.  For most of us, breathing is something that - unless you have difficulties with lung illness or disease - we rarely stop to think about how we even take those crucial 17,500 breathes a day!!

But along my travels to learn more about health and the human body I have journeyed into the world of craniosacral therapy where breathing is a much more inherent function than our well known respiratory one.  Essential to the work is 'the breath of life'.  A rhythmic life force within the body that is constantly working within us to try and regulate and heal.  Much like an ocean tide, it can be sensed and even felt if we are still enough.

But why am I telling you this? Because this month as we take our deep breaths I want us all to be able to do more that fill our lungs and calm our minds.  I want you to take a moment to journey inside yourself with the breath and pause just seconds long enough to give your body a chance to call out to you anything else that might need to be heard in our lives.

The human body, mind and spirit are truly miraculous and remarkable.  Its ability to resist, persist, heal and continue through all of life's stresses and strains is another thing we often take for granted.  It is my belief that we can be our own healers in a very powerful way.  And so this month every time that you stop to take a breath and clear your mind - visualise if you can that breath as a healing ray of light traveling through your body delivering life force to tired cells, energy to depleted muscles, stillness to our minds and love to our hearts. This month why not see if you can Breathe your way to being your own healer?
